Onboarding on Optimizely

    • Try it free
The "Try it free" button on the home page seems like it will be the quickest way to trying Optimizely, so that's what we click on to get started.

    • Sign up form
The first step to getting started is to fill in a simple sign up form.

    • Real email
This form is one of few I've encountered that actually checks if the email you added was real. I guess it does that by trying to send an email and seeing if it bounces back. The downside of this is that it takes a while for this form to submit, but the up-side is that it makes it less likely for people to add the wrong email by accident.

    • Create project
Now we're signed up, we can create a project. This page gives us some information on what Optimizely can do, and asks us to pick a platform to create a project for. At the bottom, there's a section that recommends you start a "Web" project if you're not sure where to start. We go ahead with this option.

    • Name project
Here you pick a name for your project and create it.

    • Create a campaign
It looks like we're now in the main part of the Optimizely app. The only thing I can think to do it click the "Create New" button, so I go ahead and do that. From the dropdown, I select "Experiment," because I assume that's what most people want to create when they sign up.

    • Create Experiment
Now we fill in a form to create a new experiment. There is some help text while filling in the form, but I don't really know what I'm doing here. I guess the assumption is people already know about A/B testing terms at this point.
